      HOTEL CAFE ROYAL

This luxury hotel in London enjoys an unrivalled setting on Regent Street steps from Piccadilly, where the elegance of Mayfair, energy of Soho and sophistication of St. James combine. It’s where history, culture, business and the stage are just steps away. That’s one reason why, for 150 years, people who make a difference have made their way through these doors. For Oscar Wilde and Muhammad Ali, Winston Churchill and David Bowie, David Chipperfield and Albert Adrià, Hotel Café Royal has always been the vibrant living room of London, the place to convene, converse and celebrate.

      DETAILS

One of the leading design hotels in London, Café Royal has been sympathetically restored by David Chipperfield Architects. World famous for radical and sympathetic building design, the architects have achieved a perfect balance between contemporary style and the retained grand historic public rooms of the 1860s and 1920s, which have been painstakingly restored in collaboration with historic building architects; Donald Insall Associates.  The serene rooms and suites have been created in a modern and sophisticated style characterised by a refined simplicity touched with grand classical features in stone and copper. The overall effect of the hotel’s 160 guestrooms and suites, including seven signature suites that echo the glories of Café Royal’s past, is calm, assured and distinctive.

      ACCOMMODATION

      GRAND JUNIOR SUITE
Calming rusticated Portland stone or fumed English Oak panels combined with views of Regent Street give the Grand Junior Suites a great sense of place and provide a peaceful haven in the buzzing capital. Contemporary in design, a large guestroom includes lounge style seating, a work station and dressing area. Bathrooms, created exclusively in Carrara marble, feature mirror TV screens, rainfall showers, a separate oversized bath and under floor heating.

      OSCAR SUITE
Nestled in the eaves of the hotel and with picturesque views over London’s rooftops, the Oscar Suite is a lofty one bedroom suite panelled with fumed English Oak. The separate living area is contemporary yet intimate with a large golden Sienna marble dining table and lounge style seating. There is also a separate kitchen facility. The bedroom is entered by double doors and includes a king size bed and large open wardrobes. Further double doors lead to a Carrara marble bathroom with oversized bath and separate rainfall shower.

      EMPIRE SUITE
The legendary grand ballroom of the Café Royal – the inspiration for paintings, poems and celebrated love affairs – have inspired a suite like no other in London. These ornate rooms, where Winston Churchill dined and Mick Jagger danced, can now be your luxurious home in the capital.  Like the singular events that made these interiors famous, each individual who resides in the Empire Suite can transform them to their own taste. One reason the Empire is so adaptable, is because it’s the largest king suite in the hotel, spanning nearly 2300 square feet of coordinated luxury. Step back from the grand windows overlooking Regent Street, begin to explore, and the delights just multiply.

They begin with the spacious living room, featuring a dining area with a Sienna marble table, a butler’s kitchen and a lounge with sumptuous velvet sofas and leather arm chairs. Expecting company? While they freshen up in the guest bath, you can let in another visitor – your private butler, to lay out high tea for ten in the salon. It’s an experience your friends will speak of often.

      DOME PENTHOUSE
Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Harry Potter. What is it about London, that makes so many authors send their heroes floating above its rooftops? This most elusive dream is just one of the privileges of the most exclusive suite – the exquisite Dome Penthouse. An historic masterwork, the suite commands unrivalled views of London’s famous landmarks, because it’s one of them. A former fire lookout, atop a Grade II listed building, the legendary Penthouse at the Café Royal has long dominated the skyline of Lower Regent Street. It’s hard to miss its copper dome, and the two imposing guardians of your private residence – the famous statue of Britannia, alongside her faithful lion.

Yet the finest artwork in your suite, is the space itself. Master interior architect Sir David Chipperfield has achieved an ideal balance of historical detail and modern comfort. Spanning three thousand square feet of sophisticated luxury, this three-bedroom suite is as theatrical as it is intimate, simple in plan while layered in subtle details. Consider the advanced technology – always within easy reach yet hidden until you need it. In this, and so many ways, you feel at ease, yet indulged, in every aspect of the Penthouse.

      DINING
The legendary Regent Street address has long been the capital’s hub for fine food, wine and conversation. Oscar Wilde chose the Café Royal – and its unmatched wine selection – for his salon, while Winston Churchill favoured steaks, stilton and champagne. Even those who differed on most things, came together here to enjoy an atmosphere and range of gourmet pleasures found nowhere else. The story continues today, as Albert Adrià and other celebrated chefs add to the culinary excitement. This, it seems, is a tradition everyone can agree upon.

      OSCAR WILDE LOUNGE
Once the preferred haunt of Oscar Wilde and his contemporaries, this gilded jewellery box of a room is now the stunning backdrop for the afternoon tea service.  The Oscar Wilde Lounge is the space where great minds came together to change the world. It is in this very room that Oscar Wilde fell in love with Lord Alfred Douglas, Aubrey Beardsley debated with Whistler, David Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust and Mick Jagger, the Beatles and Elizabeth Taylor danced the night away. Dating back to 1865 and formerly known as the Grill Room, the gilded room was renamed in honour of the most famous patron becoming the Oscar Wilde Lounge. Today, this dramatic setting is home to Hotel Café Royal’s award-winning afternoon tea service, presented masterfully by dedicated restaurant team and creative chefs.

      LAURENT AT CAFÉ ROYAL
This May sees the opening of the brand-new Grill & Sushi Bar, Laurent at Café Royal by internationally renowned chef Laurent Tourondel. Following previous residences by world-class chefs including Albert Adria, the Roca brothers, Paco Roncero and others, we are excited to announce chef Tourondel will hold court on the redesigned first floor of Hotel Café Royal permanently.

      SPA
Before earth, water, fire and air, the legends say, there was Akasha, the source of all creation. At Hotel Cafe Royal, you’re invited to return to that source – Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre. Here at exclusive wellness club, spacious facilities for exercise and massage are just the beginning. From nutrition to meditation, and Reiki to Watsu, you can enjoy expert treatments, therapies and training offered at no other London hotel. Akasha – the way to start the perfect London day, or unwind after one.
